I know firsthand how overwhelming learning piano can feel — trust me, I’ve lived every version of the dizzying journey...
I went through rigid traditional lessons, stressful formal studies, frustrating self-teaching by ear, classroom music lectures, late-night scrolling of online piano videos, and fast-paced studio sessions with music agents, songwriters, and composers in the real-world music industry.
As a I became a professional pianist, I was hired for every type of job out there. I sight-read both formal sheet music handed to me on stages and hand-scratched lead sheets tossed at me in recording studios. I performed difficult music that took weeks of preparation and also instantly improvised music on the spot in front of paying audiences.
I played in recording studios, film scores, jazz clubs, large theaters, intimate cabarets, five-star luxury establishments, formal concerts, recital halls, celebrity events, masterclasses, universities, churches, charity functions, and more — often multiple of these in one day!
I had to quickly figure out how to deep dive into all forms of piano music: Jazz, Blues, Classical, Rock, Pop, Country, Gospel, Broadway, Disney, Hollywood Film Scores, etc.
It was sink or swim as a piano player. I failed, succeeded, and learned through every twist and turn. That’s why I don’t teach with a one-size-fits-all method...
Instead, I’ve taken the best (and most fun) strategies from all those experiences to create a unique, proven approach that actually works — and fits you.

So, Who Am I?
Hi, I'm Matt! I'm a professional pianist, composer, music professor, and author with 15+ years of experience mentoring students and being a global musical artist.
I’ve taught 1,000+ students — many of whom have gone on to work on Broadway, national tours, movies, TV, video games, and even with Disney. My music has been heard on Netflix, Hulu, Apple, PBS, Fox, Amazon, and in projects that have reached over 75 million YouTube views in total.
Throughout my career, I’ve received numerous awards, performed on hundreds of stages, taught at several universities, published multiple music books, judged global competitions, presented at arts conferences worldwide, and served music clients in all 50 states and 30+ countries.
I’ve worked with Grammy, Emmy, Tony, Golden Globe, and Oscar winners — but my greatest joy is working with students!
I hold three music degrees: a B.A. and M.A. from Campbellsville University and an M.F.A. from Vermont College of Fine Arts, alongside completed studies with Berklee College of Music.
Above all, I’m passionate about inspiring others to discover the true joy of playing piano and making music.
